I have owned a Buckmaster LT 185 since the early 90's. It has been all over the world with me. Afganistan, Iraq etc.
it is well used, to cut 550 cord and chop fire wood etc.
It has its share of parachute jumps with me.
I even have used it as a dive knife.
bottom line, is it concidered a rare knife?
should i retire it? I would hate to loose it.
I have had the sheath modified by the riggers to make it more secure.
would not sell it, but is it expensive to replace?

well, i just started building a greenland style kayak paddle.
the plan is to only use one tool untill final sanding. The Buck 185 is going to be the tool of choice. Have been chopping away on a 2X4. I am beating the hell out of this knife and it still comes back for more. I know why you guys love these knives.

Buck made 6000 of these or so. A small number in comparison to the 184 BuckMaster over 100K knives. I vote for you to Enjoy it...:twoguns:

As I am not a (collecter of knives) I define collector as one who does not use but simply ownes unique models to display, resell, trade etc. I find it surprising the there are perfect condition in the box 185 buckmaster knives out there. So someone out there bought the knife in the 90s to collect, and has looked to resell it to make a profit?. My knife is beat up, traveled the world, has stories to tell, but is probably worth much less because of it. even though it is just as usefull, and durable, as the day it was bought.
someone please put it in perspective from a knife collectors point of view.
No disrespect intended. why collect? why is perfect condition so much better than a knife with a story?

If you use it, good for you! I have one that I have been using since new in the 80's also. I love it, the handle is better balanced than the 184 in my hands. It just seems such a solid knife to me being of all one piece of rugged steel.
Mine is also worn and scarred but sharp and loved. I always wanted another so recently I bought one on E-bay that was in great shape. I will have a backup.. If I EVER need it now!
