After seeing a .300 whisper AR-15 the other day at the range I’m feeling the need to build one.

I guess I could go the M1S route, but I want a suppressed rifle that is also short. So I guess I’d be better off building my own upper so I can have what I really want.

I’ll be sending off my form 1 to SBR the lower I’m going to use for this project

Who makes an 8”to10” 1:8 twist barrels for the AR-15. I’ll primarily be shooting 220gr SMK’s, so the 1:8 twist will be an important part in getting good accuracy

Is it difficult to build your own upper?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Tim

A member here on this board ( screen name tp555) does barrels and gas blocks. I'm using one of his on/off pushbutton gasblocks on my AR Whisper SBR. He does good work. Noveske also makes barrels. Not sure about availability right now though. Be sure to use a pistol-length gas system for reliable function with subsonics.

Model 1 Sales made a pair of custom 10.5" x 8" twist 300 Fireball barrels for me. I made them into left and right hand pistols using Stag arms uppers and Spikes Tactical pistol lowers with GSE pistol buffers. The gas ports are in the standard "pistol" location and use the pistol gas tube and low profile gas blocks from M1S. I got them in about six weeks but that was last year before the post election panic.

Nice looking guns,

Did they charge extra for the custom length?

There was an additional charge. I assume M1S gets countoured blanks from ER Shaw so they had to recountour it to my spec. I don't have the receipt handy but it was reasable.

The bottom one is a 9.5" barrel, 1:8 twist, 300 whisper with an AAC cyclone-k suppressor.

I got it from MartyTW at http://www.teppojutsu.com/

It has pistol gas system. You can see the hole in the handguard to access the PRI adjustable gas block, hidden under there. There is no gas tube in the front sight base.

She runs great with subs or supers. Over all weapon length with suppressor is less than standard 16" carbine.

Ron458,
What barrel length is this? What suppressor? What handguard?
Thank you,
Bill
