View Full Version : Reloader 7
I've gotten everything I think I'll need to reload this round. I use RL7 alot for 6.8, 458S, and hopefully the 300W. I found a load calling for 12.0 gr used with the 240gr smk.
Does anyone have any experience with RL7 in 300w? What is the best COAL for the round also?

I tired it but dont remember my loads off the top of my head. I found it to be a bit on the dirty side and finally ended my search with LilGun and would not look back.
Lil gun is faster than RL7 and 1680 which should help burning more of the powder up in my short 8" barrel, whic will mean less junk in my can. What starting charge do you recommend for the 240gr SMK to stay around 1050FPS?

I would say you could start at 9.0gr and work from there

Reloader 7 tends to burn a bit too slow. If you are going to get it to work your best bet would be with max loads using bullets 180 g and heavier.
I have tried max load with 165 and 168 g bullets and the loads left quite a bit of partially burned powder in the bore. The 180 g loads I have tried were much cleaner burning.
Here are some loads that I found on the web. Use at your own risk.
18.9gr RL7 168gr 1823fps 1240ft-lbs
15.4gr RL7 220gr 1485fps 1078ft-lbs
I hope this helps,

Thanks guys. I will try lil gun to get the ball rolling.
Loaded up 20rnds with 9.0gr of Lil Gun and the 240 smk. All ejected fine, but a few would only click when I squeezed the trigger. I beleive the bolt would not go all the way forward as I could eject the round and then place in chamber and hit the release free falling the bolt and then it would fire. The first several rounds were like this. Sometime it chambered the next round and sometimes not. It never locked open on empty. Ejection was around 4 O'Clock indicating not enough gas pressure I beleive. I think it may need to be broken in as the last 10 rounds functioned better than the first ten did. I was impressed how clean Lil Gun was and am glad I went with it. I need to drop down around .2-.5 gr I think, as when the chamber was hot i could hear a bit of a crack on 3 rounds. It was alsways the 3rd shot of a 3 shot group. Really quiet though with the 7.62sd. I am using a pistol buffer kit. Would it help to take a coil or two out of the spring. I think that may help it lock open and grab the next roun more reliably. On the other hand it may hurt going into battery as it will have less force pushing forward. Any ideas?

RE-7 always left some grains in the barrel. Shot OK, just didn't like what was left.

I have used Reloader 7 for my 180gr Subsonic Loads. I don't have the data with me but I will post them up tomorrow.
Feeding issues... Could be a neck thickness issue. For testing purposes fill ten rounds into a mag and make sure they all chamber and extract manually using the charging handle to rule out any size issues.
Feeding issues will be solved when I get my dies in. (redding die put too much shoulder on the case making it hard to completely chamber) I fired some corbon factory ammo through it without a single fail to fire. It did short stroke on a few rounds. I noticed that there was quite a bit more unburned powder in my can using factory loads. I really want to get my Lil Gun load to function, as it was extremely clean and very accurate, but I don't think the pressure holds long enough to reliable work the action at 8.8gr which is what I need for the velocity I want. I think RL7 will be my next try, so I look forward to anyones info on what to try w\ the 240 gr smk.
Loaded up 20 rnds of 240smk with 11.5gr of RL7. I have cut two coils off my buffer as it was quite stiff. All rounds fed, fired, ejected, and the bolt even locked back on empty every time on my 8" barrel ar. I heard a few cracks so I think I'll go with 11.0 grains and chrony. Anyone ever use this load and have any data?
I can see it is quite a bit less clean than the Lil Gun load as there was a lot more crud in my barrel and can even after only twenty rounds, but It functioned so well, I'm going to pursue fine tuning it and testing.

I've been using it, I load 10.8gr and get about 1040 fps @ 6000 ft elevation with a 220gr MK out of a 16" barrel.
