I have a SSK 10" T/C in .300 whisper that I will be converting to a suppressed carbine after I get my approved ATF tax stamp. the barrel will remain 10" but the suppressor will bring the barrel length to the required 16" and it will be permanetly installed
My primary use for this gun will be night hog hunting. I will also be using this gun during the day with supersonics
For subsonic I plan on using 240gr SMK
For Supersonic Nosler 125gr Ballistic Tip
I was going to use H110 but I have read that it is temperature sensitive
I heard that V V N110 is good, but it is hard to find
Would AA #9 or AA 1680 be a good replacement for H110, my primary concern is temperature because I hunt in Texas where it will be over 100 degrees in the day and then cool down to 80 at night so I want a temperature stable powder
I reload for my 6.8 SPC with Reloader #7, not sure if it will work with the .300 whisper

I've got essentially the same setup as you, except I registered the gun as an SBR so I don't have to permanently attach the can. Like you, I'm using a barrel direct from SSK.
I have had good luck using AA #9. I think there is a military equivalent to #9 but I have not yet tried it.
Using a 220 gr. SMK, I was able to get 1052 fps. on a 68 degree day using 8.5 gr. of powder and seating the bullet to an OAL of 2.204". I have not shot these over the chronograph on another day so I can't comment on temperature changes. I have a load using a 220 gr. Sierra RNSP, but the seating depth is much different, so it is not unexpected that I had different velocities with the same powder charge.
I have also used soem 150 gr. bullets with AA#9, but I was working on a "budget" subsonic load. The only supersonic loads I've worked up were using H110.

Garrett,
Beautiful gun.
Have you hunted with it yet? are subs pretty quiet with your can?
I'll be making my own can, probably a reflex "M" baffle type, either that or a monocore.
I have seen that the 220gr SMKs are less expensive then the 240gr SMKs. Just wondering if there is a difference in terminal performance, from what I have read the 240's tumble quicker, so I might stay with them. But I dont know since I have't shot my .300 whisper yet....still waiting on ATF, they seem to be pretty slow lately
I think I'll pick a Lb. of AA#9 and give it a try with my SMK 240's
This is how my contender looks now, I have a long way to go before it will be ready for hog slaying
If your wondering what is mounted to the scope it is "texasboars.com" Red/Green LED light. It's very light weight and VERY bright, the colors used are made so that they don't spook the hogs at night like a white light would. It basically lets you see out to 150 yards in total darkness. It was waaaay cheaper then night vision lol :-)

It was an unfinished blem stock that I bought on Gunbroker from some place in Kansas. The inletting was done, but the outer surface was just roughed in. I still need to finish it and find a buttpad for it.
