Would it be something that could be used for supersonics? If so, anyone have some loads for a 125 grain bullet?

Thanks!

power pistol is a little on the fast side for the whisper especially if you are wanting to use iit in an AR. You wont be able to get much velocity before you overpreasure, and it wont cycle an AR. I stick with h110, and 1680 for supersonic.

The best powders that I have found are:

2400 can be a tad too fast for some set-ups.

AA#9 Works well for both sub and super sonic loads.

H110 Works well for both sub and super sonic loads, but I prefer W296.

W296 Works well for both sub and super sonic loads. It seems that I have better results with W296 than H110.

IMR 4227 Works well for intermediate weight bullets (150 to 180) super sonic loads and heavy weight (180-240) bullets sub-sonic loads

H4227 Discontinued Too bad

1680 Works well for intermediate to heavy weight bullets super sonic loads and heavy weight bullets sub-sonic loads.

Good luck

Thanks, guys - any issues or problems with fouling or dirty bores with the H110 or W296?

I think I'm going to be using only 125 grain for supersonic and only 220 or 240 grain for the subs, so if there is a great powder that can do double duty for both that would be awesome - do you think W296 or AA 1680 would do that job?

W296 works great in a single shot or bolt for both speeds! V110 is supposed to be cleaner and still do what 110 or 296 does. Hard to find in my area...

speaking of using pistol power. on the use of AA# 9 . which is what I have always used forever.
Does anyone know what the length needed for barrel length. To make a complete powder burn in the barrel using ( 9 grn.) in .30 cal. 8-twist. ?
Can it be done in 10-inch or is 12-inch the better bet when going shorter from a 16" ?

I know this is not exactly what you are looking for. But here is a QuickLoad cal for 16g H110 pushing a 180 g bullet:

http://www.quarterbore.net/forums/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=371

As you can see it takes about 14-15 inches to burn all 16g of the H110 powder. Approximately 16 g of other powders will be similar (± 1in.). If 95% of 16g (which is 15g) of powder is burnt within the first ~5-6 inches, would guess that 9g of powder will most likely be burnt within the first 10 to 12 inches of barrel. Maybe you could get 9g all burnt within 6-8 inches of barrel

I hope this helps

thanks , it does help.
Mag. pistol powders like AA#9 must burn pretty quick. 12" inch barrel looks like a good length for my boltgun.
