 ............... Great Month ....... The most beautiful M9 bayo that i see on ebay .. in 3 years . :welcome:
... On approximately 25 of this 1st version LanCay made in 1995 , half a dozen were sent to Rock Island where they were cut into pieces , disassembled and dissected , tested etc etc ..... In fact there're maybe about ten of this model in perfect state . The last year , one guy proposed me 3700 $ for this version .....

A superb selection of clear Lancay variants! I just got my first pattern back in March. The seller was smart as he had loosened the pommel grip nut & never stored the bayonet in the scabbard since getting it back in the mid-1990's.

From what I have seen there are more than 25 around, just like the General Cutlery blades which surfaced in 2003.. How can one tell if it is indeed one of the original 25 or not made up somewhere? Rex

The first lot of 25 pieces had LanCay marked blades. The second grouping, allegedly much greater in number, had Lan-Cay marked blades. I suppose somone could swap blades, but if you run across one without the hyphen I'd say chances are pretty good that it is legitimate. I expect there is also a difference in the Fastex date, but I don't have mine handy to check.

FASTEX date 95 for LanCay ....................98 for Lan - Cay .................. 98 for US

I'd receive that " accuracy view " from the BIG BOSS of the Best of M9 MAKER ..... Hope this can help someone in the choice for the " Final " bid on the ebay auction

Mr Moon...
That I remember, only 1, maybe 2 were sent to Rock Island. The scabbard spring was too large for the scabbard and could interfere when inserting the bayonet. Couldn't get the engineer to understand so I had some made out of clear so he could see the problem. You should be able to see it in any of the clear ones. Several escaped from the factory and I'm still peeved about that.
We only sold one or two, maybe three . Don't thind there are 25 out there.

Rex made a very good point here!
Due to the way the M9 bayonet is designed (modular construction) and apart from few exceptions (like the USMC 1993) you will never be 100% sure that some parts of an M9 were not changed.
Don't get me wrong, please.
I'm sure this clear LanCay is legitimate, but this is something I had been thinking for some time.
As you know I have one of the General Cutlery LANCAY from 2003.
What happens if I changed the pommell with an un-marked one, used the correct scabbard, cutter plate and 1992 Fastex?
Nobody will be able to tell the difference with a legitimate one.
At the end, you trust the seller.

That's because there would be no difference between it and a "legitimate" one.

Exactly!
Anyway, I will not bid on this clear example only because I'm more Phrobis/Buck "oriented".

Just checked my clear first variation (LanCay). Fastex clip is dated 3/95. Because the MPBS is a modular system, it works as an advantage for either maintenance or upgrading the design during it's service life. However, this may or may not be beneficial for we collectors. Nearly any combination of parts can be assembled into a complete M9. A fair number of such bayonets (Lancay variants in particular) have appeared on the market in the past 15 years or so. If some of the scarcer Lancay military production M9s originated only from those produced & delivered to the Army, and not from over-runs or assembled from left-over parts procured from Lancay, I assure you there would be far fewer examples of these in collector hands!
In the book "American Gladius", Capt. Pattarozzi concentrates only on those known M9 variants as produced by Phrobis/Buck, Lancay, & Ontario delivered to the military. He discusses the difficulty in obtaining bonafide "issue" M9s as opposed to those sold commercially. This is why a provenance is of great help when acquiring any M9. The bottom line is any of us may have one or more M9 bayonet variations which are identical to a pattern produced for the US military, but were assembled after the fact. However, it may be impossible to establish this for certain. Therefore, so long as the bayonet conforms to the correct pattern it can be considered a legitimate example until proven otherwise.

... Today, one M9 CLEAR second VERSION Lan-Cay was sold for approximately 600 $ unfortunately, it seems that parts were not in accordance.. The 3 versions have no marking on the latching mechanism... Here is the photo that the salesman sent to me

Good observation Fabrizio!
As a side note: would you agree with me saying that in the case of the General Cutlery LanCay the most desiderable part of the bayonet is actually the blade, while on the clear Lan(-)Cay it is the plastic scabbard and handle?

... yes. I beleive that u're right ... same for the GEN CUT .... the blade seem more important that absolutely nothing........... Other great example was the XM9 from Rex'y around 300 $ perhaps without the handle but : it was an X M 9 !
.. My opinion about the CLEAR is : 600 $ for the scabbard & the handle : was a good deal ... As we know, under 100 units made for the clear 2nd version.
Amen
