Besides the obvious of how quiet they can be made.

I'm really into dual use kinda things. That's why I like switch barrel capability of the savage Savage rifles, quick release throw levers for day optics, night vision that I can move around, etc.

Well the ability to talk a popular military case (.223) and size it to take a popular military bullet (.308) to make this setup run is uber cool to me. :grin:

So not only will I have a rifles that will chamber our military calibers, I'll also have a barrel to put on one that will handle a round made from components from each, that will perform admirably either supersonic or subsonic. Totally Awesome. Now I just wish I was made outta money :wink:

Yeah the 300W is a great round, I just wish I could find cheaper short actions to start with and more companies who offer 1in8" twists. Such is life though.

Douglas makes a good 1:8 twist 30 cal barrel. It's a blank though. You still need a smith to chamber it and fit it to your action of choice.

I don't think I would call it cheap. But it isn't so expensive as to put it into the rich man's play thing territory. You are getting what you pay for.

I agree. I like the ideal behind the Savage platform. Seems very user friendly. And Mr. Spook can hook me up with a barrel when the time comes at a fair price. My next purchase (after this night vision thing) will be a 30 caliber can. Then I'll play with it with my .308 until I can hang the Whisper barrel on my .223 rifle. (Wait, NV, .223 Savage, then can, then whisper :nanabang: )

Then I'll be good to go until something shiny in the bushes distracts me and it's off to the races!!:o
