hoping the rifle will be here within the next two weeks. The paperwork is in for my 50 can but that will be a couple more months. I love my 300 so the wait to try the 510 is killing me :) Will no doubt post rifle pics with a range reports at first chance.
Was able to go long with my 300 last month- hitting 8x11" steel at 830 yrds- looking forward trying the same with the 510

here is a pic of my property- I can go out to 1200+

Hi,
I would love to come and play in your sandpit with your toys:smile:
How many moa to reach out 830yrds from a 100yrds zero? with 300 whisper or 510 whisper?

you should make a video for youtube, just for the pleasure of earing the silence between the pffft of the rifle and the gong on the steel plate

It should be fun to watch that heavy bullet in a spoting scope reaching out there!

well its about 130- but thats only a est guess because I can not dial to it. I have a horus scope which makes it easy to do consistant hold over. For 830 I can not even see the steel plate in the scope when I shoot- I pick a marker at @1200yrds then use the reticle to walk the rounds in. Once on target the shot can be repeated.

I plan on doing that- maybe next time I will remember my video camera :)

what is the Whisper load for the long range shooting?

I had a chance to buy a property like this just recently - wife grumbled - it sold.

I cant wait to read your shooters report after you launch your first
heavy bullet in the 510 whisper LOL
Feels like a mule kicked ya when shooting without a can

I'll be interested to hear about it too. I made the .510 Whisper cases for JD for 3-4 years but never saw or shot one of the rifles. He always said they were good for 1MOA out to 600 at least, and I always wondered what the trajectory graph for 600 must look like!

kicked like a mule? oddly, I am actually looking forward to feeling that :) I will put some rounds thru it when it arrives then I have to send it to AWC to have them contour and thread the barrel for the can. The whole process of this build has been great. I have 2k bullets and 500+ pieces of brass waiting for the arrival.

Isn't the recoil similar to a 308?

Have a 50-70-750 from Mr. Whisper, and YES, it does kick like a mule. Shoots .510 sub like the 510 Whisper. Before I thought about getting a can, I had BT Tech. put a computer designed muzzle brake on it. Zero muzzle rise. A world of difference to shoot. Only shot it out to 250. Does a number on deer!

Sounds like you got it working then.

I think 200 is the max for the 240 grainers at 1050fps.

Happy to hear experiences to the contrary.

Rikky- sorry I missed your earlier post. My 300/221 load is 8.5gr LilGun under a 220gr SMK and is the one I shot at 830yrds. I have tried countless different recepies but this one works for me.

Sorry - but that is pure gun porn. Far too early in the day.

I'm impressed with your range results for the 220s - that is at 1050fps?

Well ... having got a similar outfit I now have two further challenges - long range subsonic accuracy and the 510!!

Now we have all seen the new gun I'm sure the demand for range reporting will be strong.
