Hi all.

Firstly let me say that I am a new lathe user (last 3 days) and dont really know that much..

K, onto my question.

I have been given a Sealey SL 1000 in near perfect condition (think it had been used twice) but the previous owner lost alot of the accessories: Eg faceplates etc etc. I have contacted Sealey to see if any parts from other lathes will fit, but they say "no": in other words "buy a new one" responce..

Does anyone know where I might find parts/accessories for this model? or would it be better to spend "xxx" on a brand new lathe which can accomodate a range of bits?

I think the first thing I'm going to do is assume you are in the UK ! I have never seen or heard of this company before. I can not locate the exact lathe you mention anywhere on the web. I can however locate several Sealey lathes. The one I saw, the tailstock looked like some sort of joke to me, it was so skinny and I can't seem to tell how you run your accessories out of it. Every type of wood lathe I have ever seen has a hole that goes all the way through the headstock and the tail stock. The hole is a specific diameter and is usually the same diameter in both pieces. For example, you have MT1, MT2, MT3 etc. I know my Jet Mini is MT2. This designates the taper required to fit the hole. On the head stock, there should also be threads ..basically the headstock spindle is a hollow tube with threads on the outside. The threads will be a specific size, and there is probably a few dozen possibilities and there is certainly companies that sell adaptors to adapt the threads you have to the ones they use for their accessories, such as a collet chuck. Usually when it comes to wood lathes, things are pretty standard. I have now viewed 3 different Sealey lathes..they look more chincey than a chinese lathe. A great lathe for a beginner, and will definitely accept accessorizing from a variety of suppliers, would be a Jet lathe.

I have heard of them. I make faceplates what is your spindle size? Have a look around here also...Bob
