I just got my remington 700 with a 16" douglas finished. I have a AAC Cyclone for the gun. It shoots great and sounds great but is a little long and end heavy.
Does anybody have any experience with model 700 SBR's in 300 whisper that could give me some advice as to barrel length? I will only be shooting 208 grain amax's subsonic.
Thanks

I understand that about 9 to 10 inches is all that is needed for complete performance from subsonics, with the rigtht powders.
Just got my 16" Rem700 back, 1:8 Hart, left the barrel large and unturned. Don't plan on toting it through the bush, and I think it blends well with my can. Something I didn't take into account is that the subsonic ammo I already have loded for my 9" AR is supersonic in this gun.

I agree with Interceptor. If you can stand to have 6" cut of the barrel and have it rethreaded and crowned, then you should be good to go with subsonics. You will lose supersonic performance of course.
Shorter barrels also don't have to be quite as thick as longer barrels for stiffness. The weight of the suppressor will change the harmonic resonance frequency. The can costs more than altering the barrel. Heck, you could get a completely new barrel for less than the can.
Too bad swapping out barrels in a 700 is not a quick change.
