M9s Finds at the SOS

While attending the recent SOS show in Louisville, Ky., I was able to add several new M9s to my collection. All came from a member of the OVMS whom has liquidated his once extensive collection. I got the following M9s:
Phrobis "Chevron" #022 mounted on M16 barrel attached to Phrobis oak plaque.
Phrobis "Chevron" #023 Buck collector club issue in scabbard.
Buck 188 Australian contract w/black blade finish.
Phrobis Int'l M9 with silver blade & black fittings.
LanCay first pattern w/cast fuller.
LanCay M9-FT USMC standard pattern w/grey blade.
LanCay M9-FT USMC standard pattern w/black oxide blade.
LanCay training model w/concave ground blade & black oxide finish with clear
Lucite scabbard & grip.
Phrobis sanitized second pattern CUK.

Needless to say, it was a good show!

Needless to say, Fred got there before me or his take would not have been as impressive! Fortunately he left a few meager pieces for me to purchase.

Thanks Bill! Indeed I could have hogged all the M9s, and was aware I was leaving "money on the table". I also know we both had travel expenses to cover, too, and you would be there shortly. However, my primary interest was to secure new goodies for the collection. I also have tried to somewhat limit my collection by avoiding every minor variant ever made; particularly when it comes to Lancay production. This is why I resisted subscribing to the "Lancay M9 color of the month club", acquiring foreign M9 clones, etc. I had a nice conversation with the seller and he has graciously offered to send me all his notes, etc. from his (former) collection. BTW, I will be selling my Buck collector club M9 "Chevron" #159 & possibly a very nice issue "Chevron" if anyone is interested....

You guys just make me feel sick with all the M9's your able to come up. I wish I had the money you two had to acquire the ones you find...It is hard for me to find such ones living in Nebraska and add to the fact that I definely don't have the money to go to such shows as you are able to do so...But I am happy for you two at least it makes your collections more extensive than mine and you are kind enough to share pictures of these M9's so I am able to see what they look like...I thank you very much for that. What a nice find, even my "dream", a Phrobis mounted on the plaque!!!!!!!!
Not having such shows here, European collectors will always be a step behind, unfortunately.

Thanks for everyone's comments. Rexmeyer said "I wish I had the money you two had..." I can only speak for myself, but "HAD" is indeed the term! Even with diversification & conservative investing, my stock portfolio, which contains 80% of my life earnings, is down over 300K. That is equal to the amount I received after retiring with 26 years at AT & T. My only recourse is to ride this economic disaster out, and maybe in seven to ten years I will recover most of my losses.
Unfortunately I had to part with some other collectables to cover my butt financially for the next couple of years, but was able to shave enough off the proceeds to make the M9 purchases. Several friends have said I ought to dump "those M9 bayonets". Outrageous! As for "wants", how is one to know whom wants what? Sometimes I may run across a duplicate M9 someone on the Forum may be interested in. Is there a place on this Forum where members can list what they are looking for?

Aside from that one table at the SOS, what was the M9 market like at the rest of the tables? The gun and knife shows that I attend in my part of the country generally do not show much in the way of M9s. What is normally found is a latter Lan-Cay or two on 1 or 2 tables, and that's about it. TIA

In past shows I usually saw a couple dozen (mostly current) Lancay M9s & EOD knives. With local collectors present, & close proximity of the SOS to the Lancay factory, this would not be surprising. Homer Brett always has several tables at the show, and at least six or eight M9s are included, but nothing unusual. As for Phrobis or BUCK M9s, there are normally about a dozen; primarily military "4-lines". In fact, one guy had a box of current bayonets and had at least five like new "4-lines" he was blowing out @ $90.00 each. A few years back I got my 1991 USMC BUCK contract piece there for $250.00. The only factor making the recent SOS shows fertile for finding M9s was the OVMS member whom had been using it as a venue to sell off his extensive collection, which has now played out...

I went to last years SOS and there was one stall with a lot of M9's both commercial and issue, he had an Australian one that io havered over and which was bought by another BCNer there and 4 or 5 others not in my collection (not suprising as it is a bit basic but ....)
