I have been trying to get this thing set up what have you guys done so that you can use the vacuum and lock nuts?

I trimmed .60 off of the Dillon .308 die but the die sits so far down in the head of the press that you cant use the lock nut and only about 3/16" of the vacuum port is exposed. What else needs to be done? Is there a difference in the CH4D trim die different?

I added a picture so you guys can see the clearence between the press head and the trimmer.

Go to a press that has a thinner mount head.
I had to use my RCBS Rockchucker Supreme (the Dillion 650, Lee single and Lee 1000 were all too thick).
It allows me to properly insert the case and trim with the Dillion Rapid trim at correct lenth and allows enough space uptop to attach the vaccuum collar and suck out the trimmed brass.
I also added an extra step to my trim and form process because trimming the entire case with the Dillion trim die and Rapid trim lead to cases with shoulders that were malformed\lopsided. They also had to be retrimed after running them thru the full length sizer die.
So Instead of trimming and shaping the entire .223 case in the Rapid Trim, I first cut the case just above the shoulder on a $99 Ryobi table top band saw.

My process:
1. Cut the case at the shoulder with band saw
2. Trim and form the case with the Dillion trim die and Rapid Trimmer
3. Full length size and de-prime the case
4. Load em up!

I use the extended shell holder- only way I have found to not block the vacuum hole.

Looks like the 7.62x39 trimmer is the ticket. I think if I trim 1/4" off the bottom of the die I will be able to get the brass up far enough and the cutter shaft is longer so the vacuum should work fine Once I get this all running does anybody want brass. I think It will work fine in the 650 or 1050 so I should be able to do 1000 per hour.

I trimmmed the 7.62X39 die about a quarter of an inch repolished it and the set up works great.

Didn't learn about that extended shell holder until after I had everything setup. Would have been nice, but all works well the way it is.

Looks like I'll be getting a 7.62x39 trimmer in the future.
