Anyone use this setup to make 300/221 brass out of .223?
Do you simply lube up the 223 case and run it through and out comes a trimmed and formed 300 fireball case?
Thx

Tagged for the info myself.
I have ordered brass from one of the guys here who trims 223 cases and makes the 300 brass but several guys do it.

I first size, decap and swage my 223 brass then chop it at the shoulder. As a final step I finish it in a CH4D trim die.

I tried to order one in December and was told by CH it would be five months. I tried using a shortened Dillon 308 die on my 550 but I had to modify my tool head to vacume the chips.

I just talked to Dave over at CH4D yesterday (Really Nice Guy) and he said they just got 15 or so back from heat treat and should have them ready in a couple of weeks. Says they are all mixed in with 2000 other dies that came back so they just start working on the batch of dies and when they run across it and finish it is when it is done.
I went ahead and placed my order.
Funy side note, He asked "Did somone put an article out? all of a sudden I am getting a bunch of orders for these things. They have been around for 10 years and I may have only sold 10 or 15 of them in that time. All of a sudden I'm gettting a bunch of requests for them. "
Hopefully they find one sooner than later for me and get it out, I'm itching to start converting my 223 brass.

Is this die different then the Dillon 308 die with .60 taken off of it? I've been trying to get my 650 up and trimmin but have had no luck so far. I've watched that u-tube video of the dillon makin whisper brass and I'm convinced theres something not being shared. I dont blame them if they are sellin brass because if they tell everbody they wont sell as much.

I tried the shortened Dillon 308 trim die with mixed results. I was able to trim ok but, on my 550, there was not enough room where the hole in the die is to vacuume the chips out. I'm looking for someone with a Dillon 7.62x39 trimmer. I was told by Dillon that the 7.62x39 trimmer has a longer shaft because of the shorter case.

I used my RCBS Rock Chucker. Plenty of room to attached the vacuum collar and still trim the case to proper length.

I got the new Dillon trimmer today and since it has the longer shaft on it looks like if I take about a qouter of an inch off the die the 7.62x39 trimmer will work. Tomarrow I will trim the die down and then try it and report back.

The 7.62x39 die works great I took about a 1/4" inch off of it and have been making cases like crazy.

My CH4D - 300/221 Trim Die finally arrived last night. I set it up on my turret press along with the needed extended shell holder and was able to quickly make brass. It is pretty neat when you can stick in a .223 case and out pops a perfectly sized and trimmed 300/221 case ready to load.
Note: I have found that the Lake City brass is the one that cycles the easiest, doesn't stick in the chamber and requires no neck trimming.

So what are you using to cut the top off after you put them in the trim die?
A hack saw or what and then do you file the top of the case?

I have the dillon RT1200 Trimmer mounted to the die that takes care of cutting down the case. Also doesn't need to be chamfered or deburred after either. Sized, Trimmed, and ready to go in 1 operation. Just add primer, powder, and bullet.

i have not been cutting off the tops of the .223 and it works great. it is a bit scary and you do get the first ones turning on you, but once you get the right speed to feed them in at it will cut the hole thing down. i have done about 1500 cases this way and have yet to break the trimmer or the insert. i just wished i got a auto progressive press so less loading and unloading of the brass. just put it in and set up the other die after trimmer to expand the necks after trimming

i was having probs with them going hard in to the chamber as well. i found the neck thickness was too thick for my chamber. for mine i found that .011-.013 was the ideal thickness for my chamber. any bigger and the loaded round was too big on the the neck od to fit. i cut rem R.P. brass LC , fiocchi, winchester and .221 fireball and they seem to be right there. i also tried some military AD and others but they were .013-.015 and the would not fit with out turning the necks.

I WISH you guys has posted about the expensive trimmers with the info about the trim die.
I ordered and have received the trim die, I don't want to spend another $200+ to cut the cases on top of this.

Yikes you could always send it back or even sell it fairly easily if you don't want to spend the extra $$ on the Dillon RT 1200. But I really like my Dillon RT 1200 for high volume sizing and trimming on my rifle loads. Use it for .223 .308 and .300/221. If you shoot regularly and are going to load up 500+ The Dillon RT is really nice.
Manual Way:
If you have a Lathe type case trimmer you can insert the 223 case into the chuck, take a hacksaw and cut the brass right at the shoulder so you end up with a straight walled case. Then using the lathe trim it down to 1.355"; Chamfer, Deburr. Lube then Size.
Or Use the Dillon and do it all in one press stroke?
FYI:
Also I have found that only LC brass seems to be the only one to consistently fit properly in my chamber. I went through and picked out all my LC brass from my .223 to use for 300/221
