Ebay has a numbered 1st generation M9. The item # is 300286184972. The seller's start bid is $1500.00. My opinion is that he won't see even his starting bid. If it was a buy now of $1000 - $1200 I would probably bite. Does anybody else think that $1500 + is a bit too much even for this rare collectable?

Hello!
Yes, the asking price is absolutely too much, considering that the auction does (or seems to) not include the box, the original papers, number tag, danger decal and the optional wire cutter plate with the blade stop.
I'm attaching a picture from my collection, so you can have a good idea of what was included with the bayonet, minus the box, which was white in color.
The "complete set" is not worth, in my opinion, more than $900.
By the way, the small tips on the blade of the above auction are not "flaws".......if I remember correctly these small "marks" were left after checking the blade hardness (sorry, don't remember the correct english word for it).

I agree with Carlo. I'd place a value of about $800 on the piece that is currently being auctioned. However, there are only 166 of them and I don't know of any other that is for sale at the present time. So if someone wanted one real bad I could see them going for it.
