AR has been here for a while, Bolt was finished today. AR is M1S upper with custom JP component and DPMS lower. Thanks to Interceptor for all the help.
Bolt is Rem.700,Hart barrel all custom work done by Ray Perry (TX). The Rem.700 fed, fired and ejected without problems. Fired a round into the ground in the backyard. Very quiet. Coyotes BEWARE!!!!!!!!

Are you in the SE Tx. area....I live in Sulphur but get to shoot at the range north of Bridge City every once in a while....

I have about 100 rounds through the AR. 1680 is working the best. 11.2 to 11.4 gr.

Rich's 19" bolt gun with Phantom can is definately quieter than my 9.5" AR, also with a Phantom can. We shot them side by side Thursday night. As a disclaimer I was running some of my older loads worked up when I still had the 16" barrel, so..... I dunno, looking for an excuse I guess!
It was interesting hearing the differences in sound. His was like an aggressive pellet rifle and mine had more of a "boom" to it. One thing was obvious: we both need to spend a bit of time working up individual loads for our respective rifles.
(my latest test is Winchester 147gn over 8.3gn of 2400, will try out after the USPSA match tomorrow morning)
Ray did an excellent job on Rich's rifle, the trigger is super sweet! Mine is set to be dropped off to him early next week, but I am going for a 16" barrel.

I'm usually around PO/MTBE at 4640 .....
some friends and I are looking at putting a range trip together this weekend or next at the range off 105 if interested.....
I was at Ray's today to pick up a barrel and get his thoughts for a 'hunter class' rifle so I can shoot with them the next time they come over to Lake Charles....probably do something like a 30x47
sounds like the Phantom is working out pretty good for you.....I've been looking at getting another can, I'll have to check them out.....what is thread mounting size?

A cut down, rechambered M1S barrel? I must have just missed you as I was dropping off my new .300 whisper donor bolt gun.
The Phantom cans we use are of the quick disconnect flavor. Work well, but a little heavy, if I decide on another centerfire can I will look into a ti model.

A cut down, rechambered M1S barrel?......
That was me  .......had a few of the Model 1s that we rechambered to experiment with other .30 cal cats and one that had never been fired.....took one to Ray to have the chamber cut off and shortened to 10.5"....at some point I'll re-chamber and time and torque the extension to the port, been pretty busy....
Ray said someone asked about the thread protector I was using, if it was ya'll it's the Schuster (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=999271)
I've got a couple thread on cans, one is a two-point type and is probably my favorite although it is a little heavier than the single point....
