I have a friend that finally went to a 1/7 twist barrel to get his subsonic 240gr bullets flying good from his 16" barrel. I have not been able to find ayone that makes 1/7 twist .308 barrels. I am in the market for a 300 whisper upper, kit, or components and I would like to know if anyone else is getting the 240gr bullets to fly good subsonic with a 1/8 twist barrel? Not interested in the other bullet configurations, I have other uppers if I want to go fast.
Thanks

Are you using a suppressor?
We shot a few days ago and my buddy's 16" lilja 1x8 was tumbling sub 220s until we took the suppressor off. That same rifle was shooting 240s last summer out to 50 yds OK. Didn't try it further than that.
My own rifle with 11" of rifling and 5" of welded on tube was shooting OK at 100yd with sub 220s but they showed signs of tumbling at 200yd. I'm not sure if the temp had anything to do with it but the velocity seemed down(950-975) from the last time I chronoed. So I highly doubt if it would have stabilized 240s.
We'll have to do more testing to see if the temp is affecting bullet stabilization.
Douglas is the only maker I can find so far that has 1x7 barrels.

I just got an e-mail reply from hart barrels and they can build a 1/7 also. They just have not put it on their web site yet.

bigdaa250,
Being the new guy here I'm still learning from the regulars but I can contribute to your thread.
Rock Creek barrels make twists as fast as 1-5".
