Hello everyone!

I've finally decided to register on this forum. Deer hunting season really gets my 30-221 interest pumping.
I've been shooting 30-221 for years now including 2 AR barrel/upper builds and one BG rebarrel.
I plugged a 7 pointer a couple of years ago at about 50 yds with him facing me. I aimed for a chest shot but he must have lowered his head or I pulled high and hit him in the lower neck. He dropped on the spot as it must of hit the spine. Load was 125 TNT with N110 I believe. Velocity was 2375 AV out of 22" Lilja 1x8.
The rifle was a Tikka Master Sporter. I've been using my AR the last two years but it has a short barrel with a welded on comp to get it to 16". I've really been thinking of making a new long AR barrel using a Broughten blank to get better performance from light bullets.
For years now I've been wondering if It would be profitable to make AR barrels in quantity for others.
I see others have made 20" barreled AR upper work in 30-221. That's about as long as I want to go.

What gas port length is used with the 20"?

What gas port size?

AR barrels using Match blanks are very expensive. Are people willing to pay $500 to have one?

I make my own adjustable gas blocks but is anyone making a good quick adjust?

Anyone using a piston conversion with an AR barrel?

My old 16" lilja 30221 barreled upper I sold to my buddy(who now uses it for deer with a suppressor)once shot a one big hole 5 rd group at 100 yds with 220s so I'm really excited about building AR barrels with Broughten blanks as I like them better than the Liljas. My 223 broughten 1x12twist 17" AR shoots in the .5"s mag fed with blitzkings and no load development and using a 5x scope.

Some Odd loads I've used:
20 grns RL10x 155 lapua scenar 2000fps 22"BG
6.8 gns Vn330 220mkg 1060fps 11" AR/welded comp 16"
4.5 gns Tgtgrp 125 TNt 950+ fps " "

Shot the RL10x load at 600 yds with good results. Pretty much a slightly compressed load that will bulge the case if you seat the bullet too fast but isn't overpressure when shot. THe scope jumps the same as my 223 with 80 gn sierras.
Found out that advertised BC will be much less at lower velocities unless specified at the lower velocities. I.E. the Lapua 155 has a BC of over .500 . My 2000 fps load at 600 yds reveiled that actual BC was closer to .400 at the lower velocities.
I can't wait to try the 135 Mkg at 600 yds. I will use a faster burning powder(than rl10x) from now on of course.

Later,

Nick
