Building my first .300 Whisper. Since I live here in Commie-fornia I cant have a suppressor or a flash hider which leaves me needing a muzzle brake. Can anyone point me in the direction of a .30 Cal brake for the 1/2x36 thread pitch?
Thanks!

That's sort of an odd thread pitch for a 30 cal. You might try to find one for a 9mm as that is the commond thread pitch for it. I didn't find any muzzle breaks with that thread pattern in 30 cal. You may want to have it rethreaded if you have enough barrel length to do that.
edited to add: You might call your favorite muzzle break maker and see if they make one with that threading or if they would.

Your best bet is to get a thread protector and don't worry about a Brake. Muzzle brakes work by converting velocity of the powder gasses to recoil reduction by Braking them as in brake for stopping, not break for broken. If you don't have enough high velocity gas won't really gain anything from a brake. A lot of muzzle brakes are there for looks more than actual recoil reduction. If thats what you need than find than you can probably get someone to make one for you.
Hope that helps

The brake Stag Arms uses on their 6.8 SPC has a 1/2-36 thread. It resembles a Miculek brake. It's steel and the machinng and finish are ok. The best part is that it's very inexpensive. Only $15.99 here:

Since it's made for a .277 bullet you should open the hole up to about .328 for the 308 bullet. A 21/64" dirill is 0.3281". Close enough. You'll want either a crush washer, a peel washer, or tweek it with a lathe to index it or it will look weird. I used my lath when I replace the A2 flash hider on my M1S Carbine with one. I just likeed the appearance. I agree with amafrank that it makes little difference. A 16" 300 Fireball has very little flash and not enough propellant mass to notice a change in recoil, at least not when shooting heavy subsoinics.

Since it's made for a .277 bullet I'd suggest running a 21/64" (0.3281) drill though it before attmepting to shoot .308 bullets.

I just measured an unmodified 1/2-36 brake from Stag Arms and it's clear bore diameter is 0.404" diameter. That's usable for 6.8, 308, or even 9mm without drrilling.

Was reading up on Krinkov's and their issue with not cycling due to the short dwell time caused by short barrels, wondering if one of their muzzle brakes of the "gas booster" design could help out the Whisper?

Might try a Noveske KX3 to boost pressure. Give them a holler and see if they might thread one for you in that pitch.
