RLL timing issues

Well I just picked up my RLL(long wait) and can't wait to use it and have a problem with timing and I have read all topics related to the RLL and have not found a answer to my problem.

I did measure the gap(carrier to reciever) at .025 and do have paddles that measure .025 but it does not trip the hammer. If I use a thicker one it with trip the hammer as per Quarterbore timing test. Am I doing something wrong? I have not fired it yet as I am not sure it is safe yet.

I am using a bushmaster lower( I even removed more material so the link does not hit). I had m60joe mill the carriers. And I did grind down the upper so the KNS protector does not hit. I don't think I forgot anything. So any help would welcome.

It’s not uncommon to run a thicker paddle. I try to run the thinnest one that will run reliably for two reasons, one it will run slower and two the paddle takes less of a beating and last much longer. I have over 3 thousand rounds on one and still going strong.

Basically if it passes the function test your GTG, let the carrier go all the way closed with the trigger pulled back, try it slow and a little faster the hammer should not drop. With the trigger pulled back and the carrier closed open the carrier about 1 to 2 inches and let it slam closed the hammer should drop.

Over time you’ll get a good feel for it and be able to adjust and feel more confident about setting it up. I think the only time you may have a problem is if it drops the hammer when closing it slowly, which would be too advanced.

I have three guns set up and all three can run with the same paddle; but I prefer to change paddles. One runs best with a .028 and the other takes a .034 if I run the .034 in the set up that needs the .028 it will bend the paddle and run very erratic and may not trip the hammer.

If you’re not sure about the proper clearance needed in the lower I would highly recommend M60 joe to do the work at least on the first one. And don’t forget to bring an H2 buffer if running the collapsible stock with you on your first outing, because more then likely you’ll get bolt bounce.

I did email m60joe and mailed him a lower to mill out. He said it might be hitting the back end of the receiver. So I will have to wait awhile more to find out if that was the problem. hope that fixes that. I also got more paddles of different sizes just in case.

I also got a h3 buffer just in case I get bolt bounce. I may need more as I have 4 diff uppers and a few lowers. 3 of the uppers are left handed so we will see how that works out(7",11.5",16"). And I am looking at getting the AR47 lower.

I did get a new in the wrapper RLL, which was not that much more than a used one. :smile: This was a long wait as it went pending in Jan. and did not get approved until May. ATF ask for a copy of Trust two times.(I am guess they lost it)
