Hi Everyone,

I am considering the Grizzly G4002 lathe.I live in Canada and Grizzly won't ship here (I'll have to get it shipped here myself) so I am wondering if anyone can comment on the build quality and fit and finish of Grizzly lathes. The spec sheet is just what I'm after but are they worth owning? Hard to make a decision when you can't check it out for yourself.

The Grizzly type lathes are really the only new manual lathes being sold. Grizzly has parts and the people are knowledgeable so for that type lathe they are a good choice. One that has a little higher QC is Smithy and I understand the Jet may have a little better also.

There is Harbor Freight, Homier, Northern Tools, Wholesale Tool, Enco and of course Grizzly. I'm sure thats not all of them but if it broke Grizzly would be your best choice if you wanted to get it going again in a reasonable time.

Are they as good as the European and American models of yesteryear, no they are not but like me you probably couldn't afford it if they were. You will have to clean it up and adjust it but afterwards it will be a usuable machine. If you are thinking gun work look at the 4003G and consider real hard.
