View Full Version : Which oil to use on bridgeport?

I have a 1960's built bridgeport BRJ,not sure what oil i should put in it,anyone recommend something?I heard the original stuff used on certain parts was called vactra??? but i dare say that is not available anymore.Im in the UK by the way.

I recycle my synthethic car oil and use it for my machines,lathes and mills.Haven't had any problems for years.
oil companies can tell you what the now equivalent is....

Vactra 4 is used on the ways, use it don't scrimp. it is a VERY high viscosity oil with clinging properties and works the best. It is still currently manufactured by Mobil and is available in 1 gallon bottles from MSC direct.
Spindle oil goes in the upper cup to lube the Quill.

ok cheers,have you got a link to the msc website?i cant find it.
any idea how much vactra 4 it will actually hold?
and is there any filters that could be cleaned out?
i have a manual for it but doesnt give any decent info on this.
