I won't be surprised if the current bid doubles by the end of the auction.

Bill, I am curious about the chevron phrobis bayonets.. There was more made of them but they seem to fetch a higher price than a supply chain, LANCAY, General Cultery M-9, which there is a much lesser number. Why is that?

Rex,

You just don't see the chevron bayonets. They made 1200 of them. 166 were held back and those were numbered. Buck kept the odd numbered ones and the even numbered went to Phrobis. That means there were 1034 chevron bayonets delivered to the Army. They were the first ones put into service and for some reason you just do not see them around. I started collecting M9 bayonets in 1987 and it took me about 17 years to find one, and I actively searched for one the whole time! You're right that there are other bayonets made in lesser quantities but the chevron is still one of the most desireable.

Get this, I e-mailed the seller to ask permission to use the images and I got this reply...

Hi:

You are more than welcome to use them. I really should take some better pictures if you want me to do so. This was a very unusuual find in a lot of 210 M9s we bought we found 4 - I am going back to buy the remaining two foot lockers tomorrow and hope to find a few more. I think the military surplus seller we bought them from did not realize the collector value as he sold me the old ones and the newer one he sold to another buyer. Almost all the bayonets are in very good condition, however the scabbards run from poor to very good, most being good at the best. From the old hand receipts we found in the canvas pockets of some it is obvious they came from HHC, A Co, C Co, 1-9 Cav, 1st Cav Div - mostlikely when they diactivated.

Sincerely,

Mike

So, according to the seller he has THREE MORE of these

Perhaps more now as I promised not to share this for a few days...

I recall there being several comments here a couple of years ago when I purchased my first chevron for $1200+. Looks like I got a good deal.

Hello Folks,

There is no reason I can think of not to share this Info with you all.
I actually had the opportunity to meet and talk with the seller of these bayonets.
Having need to come home, he is located 40 minutes from where I live, I met with him this past Sat. and we both went through the last footlocker of M9’s. There were quite a few 3 lines in both style M’s, not as many 4 lines.
Now for the best part, there were 10 “Chevron” M9’s, in the group, no kidding. None were badly abused, like the rest of the bayonets they just showed use and some neglect. As Mike mentioned, the scabbards showed most of the wear, repaired grip straps and belt hangers, scuffed scabbard bodies, engraved unit markings and numbers. The bayonets themselves were in very nice condition, some had a little rust on guards and pommels, but nothing bad. I wish that I had thought of taking a camera for reference photos, but not to be.
Something else should be said regarding the sale of all of these bayonets, this is not for personal gain, the money is going to a charity in the Ft Hood area, Mike is a veteran, and one of the nicest gentlemen you could meet.
Best... Chris

Please post the information when he decides to list the rest for sale. I doubt I can afford one even if ten were listed at once but there are more then a few of us that would be glad to help a charity out and perhaps get one of these for our own collections

I am just VERY GLAD that these bayonets are being sold instead of choped up and melted down as the US Goverment seems to do with so much stuff. It gives us all something to look forward to seeing!

Yes, Carlo it came from the Texas lot.... I was happy to buy one in any conditon and the one I got isn't too bad. There is a couple of nicks in the blade but they can be fixed....Now I just need a couple of Lancays to finish my collection of the rarer pieces...
