I just got a box (of 100) of the new 135 gr Sierra HPBT MatchKing bullets. The new 135's are about 0.032" shorter than the 150 gr Sierra MK.

The bearing surfaces for the 4 bullet are:
135 gr Sierra MK ~ 0.277"
150 gr Sierra MK ~ 0.335"
125 gr Sierra GK ~ 0.368"
125 gr Speer TNT ~ 0.332"

With the 16-inch Noveske barrel, I am hoping to get about 2400 fps with these. I have been able to push the 125g Speer TNT to over 2500 fps with this barrel.

See here:

If is warms up a bit, I hope to load some up and try them out this weekend.

Hey thanks for the pic. I been eyeing those as well, and the picture give good context. I mainly shoot .308 but I got someone working on a 300 whisper barrel for me.

Those should hit 3000 in a 308. Interested to know what you get in the Whisper.

Well I finally got a chance to work up some loads for the new Sierra 135g HPBT bullets. The best load is 19g of W296. The average velocity is 2237±2. Yes, the standard deviation is ±2 fps. Here are the results: (2238, 2240, 2236, 2236, 2236). This load also produced a 0.7-in group.

Sierra 135g HPBT (16-in Noveske barrel. 0.083 in gas port in the pistol position. C.O.L = 2.121"

18g W296--2154 ±21*
* this is listed as Max. load in the Sierra Reloading manual. 1900 fps in a 10-inch barrel, C.O.L. 2.100)

18.5 W296--2190 ±40

19g W296--2237±2 best load

18g LilGun--2085 ±37

18.5 LilGun--2085 ±37

19g LilGun--2151±27

Was hoping to pick some of those up today at Bass Pro Shop only to find out they had did away with their entire reloading section. The numbers look good so I will have to see if I can get some in my next mail order. Do you know I stood at the counter a half hour waiting to look at one of the Nikon side focus mildots and probably would have bought it but not one of the sales people walking by even asked if they could help me and I was the only one. Driving over there and back was about 56 miles but won't have to worry about me doing it again.

I guess I am venting in your thread but I do feel better.

How did they group? It would be interesting if a 8twist brl will shoot these light bullets well. Ron
