Lets talk powder/bolt & semi

Lets talk powder for a minute. for (Subsonic Vel. only) Any difference in 'powder choice' in going from Semi to Bolt-action ?
For a Bolt-action platform. Would there be a superior choice in powder for a Burn Rate and Non-temp. sensitive. If you are, 'Not' looking for extra Gas pressure/energy to cycle bolt and extract on a AR platform ?

I don't know if this makes sense to anyone else but me and I am not into Powders on this level of Technical. I know a lot of guys are in search of good gas pressure to cycle subsonic on there Whisper AR's.
Q... Is there a difference in the 'Amounts' of gas/pressure and volume of, created on the Burn of different types of powder ?
What I am getting @ and looking for, Is there any difference in the amount of gas pressure produced with different types of compatible Powders for (subsonic only) 30-221 ?
If your Not going with a AR and 'Are going with a Bolt action'. No need to for all the extra gas for cycling the bolt. Also less gas produced on combustion of powder would be less volume and pressure on the Suppressor. This would be quieter. Quieter is my goal. Second only to accuracy.

The quietest would be the lightest bullet that will do the job using the fastest burning powder that will stay under 1100 fps within safe pressure levels. General rule is the more grains of powder the louder the bang the slower the burning powder the louder the bang. You may find some loads for Clays if you look around but don't use sub loads meant for 308 Win because you don't have as much case capacity with the 300/221. If you work these up make sure you fire at a target that you can count every bullet strike or check the bore after every shot because it is at this point where a bullet is more likely to get stuck in the bore.

I visited reloadersnest.com and saw they had some subsonic 300 whisper loads using fast pistol powders.

Thanks for the info but I kinda know that stuff. I been shooting subsonic suppressed for a few years. I am kinda in search of specific info in regards to the differences of gas-pressure bi-product. (amounts produced), 'Post burn' of the load. Using different powders for my .30-221
I am using a 16" barrel on my .30-221 and it is pretty short. I have noticed that when I am using a longer barrel on subsonic suppressed. The longer the barrel is the quieter the noise level. (IMHO) This has to do with the amount of barrel volume in relationship to the ID volume of the SupCan. and how much powder pressure and gas is eaten up in the barrel and Can before being squeezed-out the muzzle after the trigger is pulled.
For example, The quietist .30 cal. centerfire boltgun load I ever worked up. was in a 30" barrel and .308 suppressor with the 'Trailboss' powder. Also in Rimfire .22 also the longer barrel with SupCan, The quieter the pressure let-off, out of the Can is.
So less gas produced Post Burn of a powder, In a short barrel that is suppressed. Is definitely going to be quieter. And that's what info I am in search of but I may be getting way out in left-field, spining my wheels and into the stratosphere for most out there reading this. .....:smile: . but I am pretty sure that there is a differences in amounts of powder-burn gas bi-product in different factory blends of powder.

I understand what you are seeking and I have no published data other than I use Hodgdon and Vihtavuori burning rate charts. Some powders seem "quieter" than others and you feel that some property is different in the release of gas. The last debate I saw on this was like 10 years ago in the subgun forum I think. I settled it for myself by pretty much sticking with N320. Not as bulky as red dot or clays but I always felt it was "quieter".

YA, it's probably just splitting hairs to what powder will be less expansive on the gas. If you say it has been beat to death already, then I will accept that.
I will probably just settle on making a full-time Can specifically for my build. To make it as quiet as possible.
I don't like the weight of my .308 - 300wm Can. Or the small volume of a 9mm pistol Cal. suppressor. and I don't think the subgun Cans are built for sub-MOA accuracy sake.
You got any recommendations for suppressor that would satisfy my ego ear ? for subsonic only vel.
