hello,
new to that .300 whisper thing. I like the caliber though. How can I transform my Ar15 5.56/.223 in a .300 whisper shooter ? bolt and barrels only ? will my ar15 mags work ? any modifications to the upper receiver ? thanks
which store ?
Will

Really the only thing that is required is a new barrel. With that said, you will want to do more to get as much out of the system as you may like including relocating the gas tube and adding an adjustable gas system.
As for the mags, yes, you may need to do a minor mod as show by this visitor to my website:

:P :P Oh Yea, check out that video too!!! :P :P
Look at the other weapons on that part of my website and I hope others share their projects here too!
p.s. Welcome to my humble home! The newbee icon will go away with a couple posts so please keep visiting!

great. thanks. I've been going through the links on ur website. Found out i need a new barrel 1/8 twist (for big loads ) and also get the adjustable gas system like the fulton armory one.
Can i Reuse my ar15 bolt ? does it matter if one day i shoot 223 and the other day i shoot 300 whisper ? or should i keep a dedicated one for the 300 whisper ?
thanks
great site btw

I try to keep dedicated Bolt/Carriers with each of my uppers but it probably isn't necessary. The 223 Bolt/Carrier will work woth a 300 Whisper and I would still suggest you check the headspace but it should be fine (You can use a 221 fireball headspace gauges).
As for the barrel, SSK is the only place to geta real 300 Whisper and while SSK is more expensive their product is unquestionably the most accurate and best plus it pays SSK for their work to create this concept. Beyond SSK, I feel the better of the affordable barrels are from Model 1 Sales (300 Fireball). You can also have most any good AR-15 gunsmith turn you down a .308 barrel blank to any length and profile you desire and chamber it for the 300 Whisper. Just remember you want a 1:8 twist barrel if you want to shoot subsonic loads. The slower 1:10 twist barrels will not work well with the heavy bullets!
Note that I personally have not purchased a thing from Olympic Arms for the past ten years when some IDIOT at OA talked down to me on the phone almost 10-years ago. I was working on getting an OA 300 Fireball upper to run and these idiots informed me I was not capable of working on my upper and they do not support their 300 Fireball products. Pissed me off a whole lot and they don't deserve my money and for most of 10-years I have not owned a single OA product even though there are a few on this website that others own.

thanks a lot for the tips. I will most likely keep a dedicated bolt/group for the .300 and get a barrel from SSK. What 's a good length ?. I'll get 221 headspace gauges as well.
Any modifications to the upper (I have a brand new CMT upper I bought for cheap ) ? I also need an adjustable gas tube like this one right:

thanks a lot for your help !!!

No, the barrel will be the biggest item. Just be warned that SSK will cost you much more money and they may not sell you just the barrel... you need to ask them!
Otherwise, others have used that gas tune and I have one myself sitting in my box of parts for my own 300/221 project that someday I will get going...
