Am I crazy but I thought Midway used to sell the Redding 300 "Fireball" dies. I just got a new .30 can and I'm gearing up to build a 300 "whisper/fireball" AR, and I can't find dies now!! GRR!

Can anyone let me know who's still selling dies for this caliber? Midway doesn't list them anymore (except for some special order dies for forming 300 fireball brass from .223 and some RCBS special orders that are 90 days (!) out).

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

They are listed twice. This was under 300/221

Still there under obscure calibers (wrong category in my opinion).

Hey, Thanks!

For some reason, when I searched the Midway site for "Whisper" and/or "fireball" it came up with only the things I mentioned above. It didn't seem to look in the "obscure" area.

I guess it fits the definition if they "obscure" it themselves.

Thanks again!

I called Dillon to ask about a .300 die for their power trimmer and they lead me to CH Tool and Die. They have a batch in queue that will be done in a few weeks at the 07 prices. I watched a YouTube vid of a guy converting .223 to .300 in one stroke on his Dillon 650. I would think worst case you'd have to full length them again afterwards since there is no expander? Still beats all the tedium I have now. I will post how it goes after I get the die. These guys made my 50 BMG Improved dies and they are sweet. This must be how Davis does it? He owes me a load of brass and I haven't heard from him in months again.

CH makes nice stuff. Almost bought their primer pocket swaging kit but picked up a RCBS kit at a great price. To use the RCBS kit with my Lee cast press I had to make a new kicker cup to kick the brass off the swager but a 1" copper pipe cap made a nice one.

I got one of C&H's Dillon trim dies for 300 Whisper. I set it up in my old Lee single stage press. The die is so short I had to drill and tap a hole for a set screw in the press, but once I got everything fit up, the thing works wonderfully. Last night I sized and cut 40 .223 brass in about 15 minutes including the time to lube the cases.

The Dillon cutter slices the brass clean, and if you do the whole case in one smooth stroke with a Shop Vac connected to the die shroud, it leaves no chips or curls in the case.

I'd definitely recommend getting one of these if you have a Dillon 1200 trimmer and a need for 300 Whisper brass.

CH dosen't tell you, but you need a ram extension to get the case up into the die. RCBS makes 2 different lengths, I think mine is 1 1/2" which is longer than I needed. I also had to cut the top of my die down for cutter clearance so I could hit my trim length. This is the only way to make Whisper brass.

I've had a set of CH4D dies for a while and I'm pretty happy with them. As noted the trim die is a little short but its hard to be otherwise with a case this short. I've heard the RCBS dies are good too but you have to get them through ssk.

What press does this apply to? I have a Dillon 650 that I am getting set up. There is a video on Youtube of a guy making 300 Whisper brass with a Dillon multistage. He shortened a .308 trim die.

So can I set it up on a RCBS Rock Chucker w/extended die base?
Does it (C&H's Dillon trim dies for 300 Whisper) cut & chamfer inside & outside of case mouth @ same time or are these separate steps?
