I am curous if there are any T/C Contender users that are dropping in here? I would also be curious to know if you are using a T/C barrel or an SSK barrel and what length barrel you use and what twist rate...
I am also curious if anybody has used one to hunt (especially big game)? If so, have you managed to get anything with it and how did the bullet perform? What loads were you using?

Quaterbore,
I have my 14 " TC Custom Shop (Fox Ridge) barrel on order. It should be here within 4 to 8 weeks. It will be used for Whitetail hunting in Il, and I'll let you know how it works. It missed this year's regular firearm season (Starts tommorrow) but it might make it in time for the January handgun only season.
I'll let you know if it does, and how it works.
I love the concept of this little round.
I'm very curious on how it will perform on deer.

Hey,
I've had my 10" SSK .300 Whisper barrel since this summer. It's by far the most accurate Contender barrel that I have. I was hitting an 8"x16" gong at 400 yards pretty consitantly. This was with a 150 gr. bullet at supersonic speeds. The heavy subsonic stuff had a bit more arc to them.
I still need to play around with some more loads and see what it likes to shoot the best.

Hello, I've had my SSK 15" BBL for a couple of years (I forget the twist rate). It is very accurate and the ballistic plex helps alot for the longer shots. I've taken out for white-tail hunting this season. I found that one needs a sling or holster to tote it around for any length of time

I have a 16 inch, 1:8 twist SSK 300Whisper barrel. I have used the 220gr Sierra bullets with H110 powder to hunt with several times. I only go for head and neck shots since these bullets will not expand on game.
I used wet phone books (and deer/ turkeys) for my expansion testing. A BDC scope or a mil-dot scope is needed to shoot these heavy bullets at differernt ranges. I wouldn't recommend hunting with this cartridge unless you pay your dues at the range and know your limitations.

Personally, I wouldn't hunt with the loads you are using. A supersonic load using a single shot pistol bullet in the 120-gr range will give much better balistics and much better on-game performance. The 300 Whisper is easily a 200-yrd deer cartridge as long as you use the correct load... This is a fine hunting cartridge, your load is the problem.
p.s. I didn't say... "WELCOME!"

Yes, I have also taken deer with 125gr Sierra bullets in the 300Whisper. They expand great in the 2200-2400 range and put game down quite well. But one must remember, this cartridge was designed with heavy subsonic loads in mind. You haven't lived until you use a supressed 300Whisper to quietly shoot a deer in the head at 100+ yards.
If I was after the most powerful deer cartridge in a Contender, I would use something else. That was not my goal.

Here's my entry:
G2 Contender carbine with 16.5 inch SSK 1x8 twist barrel, Leupold 3.5x10x50 Illum MilDot, and AAC Cyclone suppressor. I did the stock with Brownells spray grit just on the grip and part of the forend, then coated it in Flat black Alumahyde. And here is the finished product. Is there any such thing as a "Tactical" Contender?

I have an 18" SSK barrel. I have had it for around 3 years and have put an eask 1000 rounds through it. It shoots everything from 125s at 2300 to subsonic 220's. Cast 220's with 2400 @1000fps are a great plinking load.

I'm patiently waiting for my T/C carbine to come back from the Smith's to find out if I own a lemon or not. I have a SS version with 1-8' VVCG barrel, 6 screw mount VVCG ss scope base, leupold QRW rings, leupold 2.5-8x36 vX3 scope & lightweight Gunworks suppressor. I'm hoping for a real shooter as the rifles previous owner was suppossed to be getting 1" 200yard 5 shot groups. So here's hoping!
