So I've got my new SSK 300 Whisper AR-15 Flat-top. Now I need some optics. Anyone have any suggestions? What do you folks use? Considering the versatility of the cartridge, what might one recommend for the Whisper? I'm mostly going to be shooting shorter range suppressed sub-sonic loads as opposed to super-sonic, but I'd still like something that can accommodate a variety of ranges. I'd like to keep the scope in the $500 range, but I'm open to ANY suggestions.

I and a friend have SSK AR's......I went with a Leupold 4.5x14x50 mark IV, lots of adjustment......my friend went with a 6x24x40 side focus Bushnell Elite, really really nice scope for around $575.00.....the Bushnell is very compact for its power compared to the Leupold or Zeiss 6.5x20....

Bushnell 10X model 3200 with MilDot reticle. Good out to 200yds+. Very distinct clicks making it easy to count click (even by feel) in low light. Tall turret knobs, clear optics, repeatable and durable. Have 3 on various rifles including a whisper.

Just one old guys opinion:wink:

Hayseed, I got a Mueller 3 X 10 X 44 Tac II over the summer with (supposedly) 99 minutes of vertical adjustment. The glass is as clear as you could ask for, has a mildot reticle, and has stood up to pretty substantial recoil without issue. I think it was just over $300 at EABCO. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

How about a pride fowler .22 ballistically compensated scope? If you look at the trajectory of sub 300W, its close enough to a .22 to work.

Interesting observation, I use mil dot scope and was thinking about have a custom reticule for various distances but BDC for 22 LR might be better.
Thanks for the info.

Has anybody tried the Pride Fowler .22 reticle on the Whisper ? If not, I might just buy one and in the spirit of Whisper research see how it goes.

Hi Hayseed, I use a Sightron 3 - 12 x 42 with a Mil-dot recticle, I have it zeroed on the cross hairs for 125gn ballistic tips for super sonic and 2 dots down for 220gn SMK, works great and is a brilliant scope. Shane

I use the P22 Shepherd scopes on rifles where I want to shoot both supersonic and subsonic loads. I adjust the cross hairs for the supersonic loads at 100 yards. Then I adjust the circles below for my subsonic loads at known distances. Having separate windage and elevation adjustments for super and sub loads has worked great for me.
