I'm building a Savage 12BVSS .223 for the .300 Whisper. Now I need to order a barrel.
Where did you get yours and are you satisfied?
Is there some place else you wish you had gone too?

Mine is a Douglas. I'm happy with it, but if I could go back in time, I would have had Noveske do it with a Pac Nor.

Why don't you like the douglass? I make lots of barrels from pac nor blanks and douglass blanks. The pac nor blanks are softer and easier to machine then the douglass blanks. I rate the douglass the hardest blanks made. There are other blanks that are heat treated as hard and can be a pita to machine, but for normal commercially available blanks douglass heat treats to a higher degree.
So it would wear out slower.I am talking I have machined over a hundred of pac nor and douglass blanks.regards.

The main reason why is because I wasn't able to shoot the 220gr SMK very precisely, so I checked the twist with a tight patch and rod. It is supposed to be 1 in 8", but mine is actually 1 in 8.75". The other reason is just my buyer's remorse getting the better of me, because I read tons of stories online of dudes having Noveske rebarrel their stuff with Pac Nor barrels and then them shooting nothing but bughole groups. I know it is probably up in my head and alot of internet stories are just that, stories, but I was just being honest with my statement above.
Mine will shoot 1/2-3/4" 100yd groups with supersonic 110gr Sierras and with subsonic 180gr SMK under AA9, but I have a hard time getting under MOA with other subsonic loads.
I do feel alot better about my purchase after reading your post, though. Thanks. :)

Checked out the pacnor 8 twist and the douglass. So here goes. The pac nor was 8 1/8 and the douglass was 8 1/4".Not exactly a deal breaker.I also had a douglass and shilen 10 twist blank. The douglass was 10 1/8 and the shilen was 9 7/8".Might be worth looking into the shilen. Results are from checking out only one barrel each so make your own conclusions.regards.

I have a 17 inch heavy stainless barrel from Pac-Nor on my Rem 722 action.
Its a 5 groove 1 in 7 twist. Haven't had a lot of time with it yet, but
will be doing some shooting again tomorrow. Got some 165gr Hornadys and some 210 Burger VLD's to try. Will see how they chrono and go from there!

I had J D Jones make me a barrel for my TC Contender, he used a Shilen barrel blank, the twist rate is 1:8 and it shoots .75 MOA @ 100 yards. The best barrel that I have seen for the Whisper/Fireball are made by Mike Rock... He built my brother a rifle on a CZ action and it shoots .375 MOA all day long. Be ready to wait though...

Forgot to mention we use the 240 SMK's not the little 220 SMK's...

Maybe I should add that the wait for a Mike Rock barrel varies but it is worth everyday when your rifle is completed. Not to mention that Mike knows his stuff and is a down to earth great guy.

Lothar Walther fell through. Wouldn't return emails and phone disconnected.
Chose Pac Nor for the Savage 12BVSS.
Funny thing happened to me last weekend. Went to a small local gunshow. Walked out with a Savage Striker in 22-250. And McGowen barrels is running a special deal for the "specialty pistol" crowd. Match grade, up to 17", any contour, threaded, all for $92 + shipping. Chamber is another $60. Muzzle thread for $30.
So. Now I'm gonna have 2 300Whisper firearms. Rifle and a pistol.
Funny old world ain't it.
