I have my AR working with 220 and 240gr subsonic bullets. I would like to go lighter and cheaper.

So how light can I go?

These will not be for hunting. These will be for target shooting only.

Thank you

Accurate Arms list sub-sonic loads for 165 gr bullets here:

I have shot the 165 gr sub-sonic load and was very pleased with it..

It all depends on where your gas port is located and how large in diameter it is. My upper that is now dedicated to shooting subsonic rounds will cycle 125gr bullets fine. The gas port is in the pistol position and is at a larger than usual diameter. It also is back to sporting a fixed pistol gas tube so I won't be shooting any supersonic loads in it again. As mentioned by another member larger gas ports do shave more bullet than smaller ones.

Pug,

You are such a tease.

What powder and bullet are you using for your 125 gr sub-sonic. Will my Olympic Arms barrel with a 0.07 in. pistol position gas port work with the 125 gr subsonic load?

Hey 320pf,

Wow walked right into that one didn't I. :)

I get the best Sd of 5.1 with 9gr N110 using a Speer 125gr TNT with OAL at 2.0". That was actually my start load and velocity was around 900 fps. My Oly barrel wouldn't cycle the 125s and I am now running a gas port that is 0.101" if I remember correctly. After trying a lot of different things I would not personally open up a pistol position gas port for some one if they were going to shoot supersonics. I don't think my factory Oly barrel would 100% lock the bolt back with subsonic 150s but it would cycle.

I've attained good results with 150gr Hornady FMJBT bullets out of my bolt gun at 1,020fps. I haven't tried any lower for bullet weight.

I should have stated that I am only interested in AR subsonics.

I assume you bolt rifle guys should be able to get any bullet subsonic.

Thanks for the data.
