View Full Version : Loading 300W + H110 (vihtavuori) + PPU 145 grFMJ BT
I have just finished my custom made 10" whisper pistol barrel. I have made it of Lothar Walther .30-8 stainless steel barrel blank.
I have the following loading components at home.
- 300 Whisper brass
- CCI 400 small rifle primers
- H 110 Vihtavuori gun powder
- PPU 30 145 gr/ 9,4 g FMJ BT projectiles
Could you help me to find a suitable recipe for making some rounds to shoot the gun in, and for later use, if the recipe is different? I have planned to make a set of 250 ( all my brass) rounds with the same recipe to get the gun and the brass shot in.
What would be the loaded length?
Anything else I should take care of?
Greetings and thank you!

I have not tested this, but it should be good.
For 150gr bullets
from steves pages.
11.8 gr min
16.5 gr max
Hornady says 15.5gr max
I question your primer. I am using magnum primers with my W296 loads.
What about the length? How long should the projectile go in the case or what should the loaded cartridge lenght be??

Jope,
Your post is a bit confusing. What powder are you using. Hodgdon H110 or Vihtavuori N110. These two powders have different burning rates. N110 is slightly faster then H110.
You might also want to give Hodgdon Lil'Gun a try. I have found this powder to preform well in the 300 Whisper.
As far as suggested loads. Both Sierra and Hornaday manuals have reloading data for the 300 Whisper. If you give Sierra and Hornaday a call the will either fax or e-mail you the load data.
There are also some links here on quarterbore:

I have also posted a few loads here:

Most of the loads posted under "not yet verified user loads are mine with the exception of load #'s:
2973, 2974
3299, 3577
I hope this helps

Hello,
Im using H110 Vihtavuori powder
jope,
Vihtavuori N110 is a bulkier single base powder than Hogdon H110 double base powder and you will find not as much will fit in a case. For the 150s that set deep in the case I load to 14.5 grains of N110 for a velocity of 1800 fps. Cartridge overall length is 2.050". Some 150s have the cannelure in the middle of the shank and these seat not as deep and give an overall length of 2.190". If you are using true whisper brass trimmed to 1.4" then posted OAL will be about .040" longer.

I load the long bullets so they fit my AR-15 mags.
I load the short bullets to the cannelure.
If I were loading for a bolt rifle of pistol, I think I would see if I could load them out closer to the lands.
