I have both a narrow and a wide font 4th gen Phrobis III. I was curious, all things being equal in terms of condition, which is worth more and what is a FMV? I'd estimate both to be in excellent condition (minus 1-2 caveats on the wide).

That raises my other question -- is there any source for replacement parts? I need to replace the chipped wire cutter on the wide and get it a pouch for the front.

Was a 4th gen Phrobis ever issued with the later style wire cutter, or would that being present on a scabbard represent a unit repair?

Thanks.

The best indicator of current market value is ebay. There are constant sales of these and you can see a pretty much up to the minute value. I don't believe there is any significant difference between the two in value, unless you have it on auction and two people happen to be looking for that particular piece.

Replacement parts for the Phrobis bayonets are not that easy to find. Phrobis no longer exists and it founder and owner, Mickey Finn, passed away last month. Buck, who manufactured the bayonets for Phrobis, used to have odds and ends kicking around the plant but they got rid of everything when the moved from El Cajon to Idaho two years ago. Mark Baker, who goes by the ebay name unnaturalone, has original Phrobis parts from time to time. He's a great guy to deal with, check out his ebay on line store.

The Phrobis scabbards were not issued with the modified cutter plate.
