I don't know if this is the correct area to post this but, I have a question about "Ballistic Knives". I already know that their highly illegal and I was curious if anyone has one in their possesion w/o the coil spring? A

nd I'd just like to know some of the facts on "Ballistic Knives". Such as how fast they can travel in FPS (Feet Per Second) and how accurate they are up to what distance?

I reason I'm asking this is because I can't find any information (on the web or in books) on them, and I was wondering if anyone on this forum could help clear up some of the questions that I have?

i remember seeing ads for these in soldier of fortune back in the 80's. maybe pick up a current issue and contact them.if memory serves me correctly they were imported from russia,i cant remember if they used a blank to fire them or what. i do remember being impressed by the ad and remember they were about a hundred bucks, alot back then for a knife.also try contacting atf for a copy of their ruling of why it was outlawed it may be helpful with more info. they are pretty good about sending you info and they wont come knocking on your door to see if you have one either.they have better things to do.good luck in your search.

Tag (I thought there was no such thing,... at least not a successful one).

Spetznatz Ballistic Knife was aluminum w/a Steel blade hollow aluminum tube behind the blade inside was a Shock absorber spring & you compressed it into a handle that had a catch & was secured with a pin like a granade It would shoot into a hollow core door from 10' with no problem stick in the length of the blade & you are right SOF sold them in an ad back in the early eighties  it did not use a propelant or cartridge to expell the blade
