Fellow collectors,
I noticed on Ebay that the Buck 184 survival knives with the following blade marking "BUCK 184 U.S.A. Pat. Pend." are being refered to as Pre-Patent Buck 184. As I understand it, the Buck 184 knife that does not have Pat. Pend. on the blade is the first variation and the only pre-Patent model. If the blade is marked Pat. Pend., then it is the second variation made after the patent was applied for. The third variation is the model with the BUCKMASTER PAT.PEND. forged along the center of the blade. Please correct me if I am wrong. Any information would be appreciated as it will help clear this up and help all of us. PanCanal

PanCanal,
Your summation is entirely correct. No Pat. Pend. markings is the first variation, then the Pat. Pend. marked blades, then the Patent information forged into the fuller.

Ebay sellers often refer to the Pat. Pend. model as pre-patent. I've tried to inform sellers of their mistakes in the past but have pretty much given up on that. Most people don't want to hear what your telling them and are down right nasty about it.
