Anyone have any luck with this? With the stock ejector spring the brass kicks off to soon and still in the action. So I tried taking a few (3 loops) coils off the spring and now it slightly kicks the brass to the side but it is still held in place by the extractor. Any ideas? Maybe only take one coil off the spring? A different spring all together? Any other sources for the spring?
Thanks-Ron

From my understanding of the problem there are several factors at work here. You have to look at what caliber the rifle was before it is was a 300/221 and what type of brass you are using.
I believe that the dimensions of the bases of the 221 Fireball cartridge and the .223 cartridge are slightly different. I think that the .223 is a hair larger.
What that means is, if you have a .223 boltface, and you are using brass formed from 221 fireball, the base of the cartridge is not being gripped by the extractor sufficiently to extract.
I used a Remington 700 in .223 for my Whisper and I use nothing but .223 brass and I have no problems with extraction.
I believe that whatever is causing your problem, having a gunsmith install a Sako-style extractor will fix it. (that is what I heared at least)

Is there a way to modify the ejector so that it can extend farther...
If I understand right the shorter case of 300/221 can swing farther before the case mouth comes in contact with the inside of the receiver. Once the ejector reaches it's it max, then the cartridge is free to come loose from the bolt face, bad if this happens still inside the lug area. I would try that first, which would actually want a longer spring...maybe.

I think I can extend it some, I may have to "make" the spring a little longer.
