I am going to sbr my Remington 700 that is chambered in 300 whisper. What is the shortest barrel that would get me 1050 fps with 220 grain bullets. I would think at some point you could get too short.
Suppressor is degroat that is 12 inches long. It s quiet but with a 16 barrel and the suppressor it is hard to deal with.

IIRC, all the powder is burned up in the first 10".

I would go 7-10 inches.
Sounds like a cool project. Keep us in the loop.

I've heard/read this a lot, most of the time, I hear it as 8.0" or 8.2". The more I think about it, the more I think this is an internet falsehood.
Just ponder this: Is it reasonable to presume that there is a fixed point or distance at which all powder from any particular cartridge is burned?
For example: If you load 9.4grs of VV N110 (220gr bullet), will it burn in longer, the same, or shorter distance than 19.0grs of H-110 (125gr bullet)?
See what I mean? If we wanted to restrict ourselves to one particular load, or possibly, one class of load (such as light-bullet supersonics or heavy-bullet subs), we could maybe draw a general conclusion and get within a couple inches of a certain length...

I agree with Hoser - For a can that long, even if it has some reflex, I'd go with a 7-8" barrel, just to keep OAL reasonable.
I'd also check the information from the suppressor manufacturer, as some do not warrantee their suppressors if used on a barrel under a certain length. (I've heard 8" for some.)
