New Gun Project

I have been reading all of your info for weeks now. It is very informative. But I have a few questions. I am planning on building my first custom rifle. I have chosen the 300 Whisper as the caliber. I am converting a Remington 700 VS SF II .204 Ruger. I am planning on the gun for 0-150 yard bench shooting and maybe deer or smaller hunting. Hunting will not be it’s primary purpose for now. It will be more of a toy. I will most likely be using the 150gr CorBon ammo in the beginning. I don’t really plan on reloading for it at this time. I have all of the equipment to do so, but no free time.
I have settled on a .820 diameter 18” STLS Barrel. I am having it threaded to accept a brake (just for looks) or eventual silencer. Not sure if I want to go the class III just yet.
I would like the ability to shoot the subsonic and supersonics out of it with great accuracy. I know I may have to reload to achieve this down the road.
Am I asking to much out of this rifle/cartridge combo. Does any of my goals and or configurations not seem like it will work. Just don’t want to invest all this money in something that doesn’t work that entirely great.

I think the 300 whisper will do exactly what you want IF (don't ya just hate those IF'S?)....

You don't expect much out of factory ammo! There is nothing wrong with CorBon Ammo it is just that you are limiting yourself and the guns capabilities based on one bullet/brass/powder combination. If you are lucky, your combination will put the corbons in to one tiny little group. But if it doesn't and your groups look more like "patterns" don't get discouraged. Just pick up some dies, bullets and brass and start playing with loads.:rolleyes:

Remember you are building yourself a "custom" rifle and my experience is that if I want to be happy, really happy with a weapons performance I need to roll my own ammo. I have 2 whispers now and have had as many as 3 at one time and each had a little different idea as to what it like to wring out the most in accuracy and performance.

Get the corbon, break the barrel in properly and then go from there. The journey is 85% of the fun (and frustration)... Enjoy the journey!

The whisper will do everything your looking for and even more. I have 3 comments though, make sure you get a 1:8 twist barrel so that you can shoot the the larger 220 and 240 SMK's. Second don't was your money buying corbon ammo roll your own. Third the whisper is fun without a suppressor but after you breakdown and buy a suppresssor for the whisper you'll wonder why you waited so long.
