I got an e-mail from a good friend here on the forums advising that I was likely being played on a pair of auctions I was seriously interested in.

The auctions are here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250054474163&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT&ih=015

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250054478746&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT&ih=015

Note that both of these bayonets are LanCay Fullered M9s dating to 1992. They are also great looking knives to boot!

Well, before you buy you might want to notice that I had bid $350 initially for each of the two knives and I got bid upto my limit by another bidder soon after I bid.

When you look at this other bidder's auction that they have listed they also have a M9 bayonet for sale with a photo that was taken at the same time and the same place as the original seller!

Look at the pictures here:

Just a word of warning as I am no longer interested in playing games with these two! I don't know if it is one member with two accounts or two good friends but I smell a rat!

:twoguns:

Special thanks for the heads up that I was being played!

You're right, something sure doesn't look right. Both individuals live in the metropolitan Seattle area. Long time ebay members with low feedback ratings. Same photos.

It could be something as innocent as one guy stealing anothers on line image to use in his auction, but there are too many things that make this look like a scam.

Ran into to a deal on ebay today where a guy bought a car I had for sale on ebay and before I could send him an invoice he had two negative feedbacks from other members stating he wouldn't pay. I haven't received anything from him and his account has been deleted. That is just great because now I have to relist the item at my expence.

If you read ebays rules it states you are entering into a contract or agreement with the seller if you are the buyer. Ebay won't do anything to either party if one backs out. They refuse to and that is why I am having to pay to relist my item.

I wish I was closer to this guy I would pay him a little visit.

Quarter glad you caught it or was told about it before it was to late.

Funny, after I got out of the deal this other member decided to retract their bids too:

It is a crying shame as those are some awsome looking knives but I refuse to play that game!

Buyer Beware!!!

I contacted the person selling a Phrobis M9 using the photos from the LanCay auctions in question. Here are the messages, judge for yourself what transpired:

ventoboost: audios82 is a really good friend of mine and since my digicam is currently out of service i asked him if i could use his lan/cay m9 pic.

me: Wait a minute, if he's a good friend of yours then why didn't he sell you the LanCay bayonets instead of making you bid on them. And when the high bidder withdrew his bids, why did you suddenly withdraw yours?? Sounds to me like you were running up the bidding on your buddy's auction. You know that's against ebay rules and illegal, don't you? It's called shill bidding. Check ebay's policy on it.

ventoboost: Well it was really a practical joke towards him, he had no idea what I was doing. Anyway i am in the service also like him and I happened to chat with him and he brought up the idea that we could sell our knives and so I did. It was bad judgement on my part but we both legitimately are honest people that have military items that we need to get rid of. Again no intentions of lying to bidders..

So, you be the judge. I heard from another M9 collector that he has purchased two fullered LanCay bayonets from audio82's earlier ebay auctions and was very pleased with them.
