I have been informed that if I do not find a less noisy form of relaxation then I will probably be deaf within 3 years. I have always been interested in the 300 Whisper and thought I would ask the ones who use them. I have a Contender old style and would like to know where to start. How much can I get by with price wise and what would be the ultimate? Is it something that I can do one piece at a time, maybe spread the cost?
Thanks
Jacob

The first thing you need to do is wear good hearing protection. I have problems with my hearing and often times I will wear some ear plugs under the earmuffs. Since you want low noise, I assume you want a rifle length barrel. You already have a TC contender, so I think that would be the easiest and cheapest way for you to go. You can get a 16 to 24 inch barrel from 235 to 280 dollars depending on what you choose from E Arthur Brown, they are the distributors for the TC Custom shop. I got the Redding dies because they were cheaper, and they have worked fine for me. You can either buy the brass already made or easily make your own from 221 fireball brass. That said, I have been having a blast with a 300-221 on an AR15, but that is a bit more money. Some others here may have better ideas. Good luck.

Sorry to hear Jacob, but I can sympathize that's why I'm getting more in suppressed weapons. Pickup a 22LR can and thread a pistol and rifle - quietest form of shooting you can do and cheap. Welcome to Quiet County

You betcha we're here to help!

If you look on E-bay you will see T/C 300 Whisper barrels come up for sale. Check gunshows as well - you can also look into other barrels (30 carbine come to mind)

You can order a 300/221 replacement barrel for any .223 platform but priced dependant upon maker...

I'm putting together an AR15 in 300 Whisper and it's been going on for almost 2 years. So yes you can spread it around if you have patience
Thanks
Jacob
