Apparently it's BATF legal, why? I thought any device that lowered the sound more than 3 db. (2?) was considered a suppressor. Is there a loophole for shotguns? Is it legal because the length precludes it from being used for evil puposes? In other words would a fatter, shorter version still be legal?

Would this same ported approach work for that long barreled 45acp?

This 12 ga would serve my needs for backyard varmint control although with less accuracy(slugs) or range(shot). And just how do you quickly open a door or window and poke a five foot long barrel out? :frown:

Because it's for the children and there's no law that says longer barrels are illegal - it's a byproduct of the longer barrel not an add-on to achieve the same thing - If you take a 22 short and shoot it out of 4 inch , 6 inch, 10 inch, 24 inch it just naturally keeps getting quieter - same thing here - but if I add a Suppressor onto the 4 inch barrel to make it sound just like the 24 inch barrel I need a $200 tax stamp of approval as the device that I added to the barrel altered the sound character of the 4 inch barrel - ATFE has in the past gotten convictions for people who put devices on the end of the barrel and it actually raised the noise that the barrel put out but ATFE proved that the maker was trying to make the barrel quieter - that fact that he made it louder didn't get him out of breaking the law as his intent was to make it quieter....

Ain't our Laws fun to look at.

I bought a CZ Ultra-Lux 22 bolt rifle for this reason. It has a barrel close to 29.5 inches. It is real accurate and really quiets things down a bunch. I consider it backyard quiet with CCI CBs (and CCI subsonics in a pinch). I still rely on my 22 inch old Marlin rifle with my HTG .22 can on the end when I really need it very quiet though.

I would like to try a 22 rifle with something like a 35+ inch barrel to see what it would do. I guess it would point somewhat like a flag pole in the field.

I've shot a 12ga with the metro barrel on it, and was not overly impressed, save your money. it's a little bit quieter, but the barrel is soooooo long that it's a pain to shoot,
