Has anyone seen these Ontario Prototypes? Apparently they were designed for the USMC Test trials. Ontario sold them to a dealer. I contacted Ontario customer service (Sue) and she varified the story. Ontario models OKC-1ft with a tonto blade, OKC-3FT similar to the USMC accepted bayonet but it has a straight cutting edge, OKC-6FT bowie fullered blade and a neat 10 3/4 inch length bladed one. The handles on these are a hard fiber material. Scabbards are also slightly different than the now issued models. Pancanal

I've not only seen them, I have all of them. Ontario made them in two types of steel; Ultra Carbon and Diamond Steel. I can post pictures of them but not for about a week (on vacation). Send me an email so I don't forget.

I have five of the six. There were three patterns; long blade (similar to OKC 3S),
"Ka-Bar" combat knife pattern, and "Tanto" pattern (now being offered commercially). As Bill P. mentioned, each pattern was made with either a Ultra Carbon (UC) or Diamond Steel (DS) blade. "UC" or "DS" will be found stamped on the face of the bayonet's cross-guard. The appearance of the blades is either a very dark, smooth finish, or what looks like a sandblasted blued finish. I recall a large knife distributor acquired the lot from Ontario, and they are designated the OKC 1FT, 3FT, or 6FT. The bayonets all have the earlier "waffle-pattern" grips, a non-serrated cutting edge (requested and incorporated in the OKC 3S), and the scabbards have only one retaining strap.

pwcosol is pretty much right on, but the Ontario designations were OKC 1FT (tanto blade), OKC 3FT (blade similar to the OKC 3S) and OKC 6FT (Kabar style blade). All of the bayonets had the USMC Eagle, Globe and Anchor silk screened on a small oval on the grip. There were some later OKC 1FT bayonets that had US Army markings on the grip, and these were soon after followed with the OKC 1FTS with the serrated blade.

Thanks Bill for the correction. I have amended my original post accordingly!
